Coloured cornflour goop

Coloured cornflour goop

You need:

  1. 2 cups of cornflour

  1.  1 ½ cups of water

  1. Food colourings

  1. A fork

How to make it:

  1. Mix the cornflour and water together to make a thick but smooth mixture. This needs to be done immediately before exploration of the item otherwise it will set and it is much more difficult for it to be manipulated.

  1. Put the cornflour into a tray and then drop food colourings on the top, they will spread out a bit but not much.

  1. Allow your child to mix the colours together either with their hand or a fork.

How it can be used to support learning:

  1. Exploring the properties of a different material

  1. Colour mixing

  1. Tracking a moving object

  1. Hand awareness- where are their hands and how do they move to touch items?

  1. Using tools for a functional purpose i.e. fork to stab and drag

  1. Isolating a finger to explore a material

  1. Observing the results of their actions

  1. Engaging in parallel play with another child/adult
