Colourful foam

You need: 

  1. 2 Cans of shaving foam (Value brand- white in colour) 

  1. Three or four colours of paint  

How to make it: 

  1. Spray shaving foam into a bowl (A third as much as you would like your child to play with) 

  1. Add one colour of paint (Add to get your desired colour) 

  1. Mix shaving foam and paint together with a spoon until the foam and paint are well combined 

  1. Place the coloured foam across one side of a tray 

  1. Repeat the process with another colour and place it next to your first colour 

  1. Repeat the process with another colour if desired 

How it can be used to support learning: 

  1. Exploring texture 

  1. Tracking a moving object/Responding to the position of a material 

  1. Anticipation games- Ready, steady…Go (On go splat hands together) 

  1. Hand awareness- where are their hands and how do they move to explore a material? 

  1. Increasing use of fingers to grasp and release by picking up objects from within the foam 

  1. Developing listening skills– Have objects hidden and  ask your child to find them when you give a symbolic and/or verbal cue 

  1. Developing problem solving skills- Searching for particular colour/type/number of items 

  1. Engaging in parallel play with another child/adult 

  1. Developing messy play skills- patting and spreading
